Team sport is any sport that requires a group of people to function as a unit and compete against other teams. It is not only a great way to get exercise and meet new friends but it also builds a sense of community. This is because it provides an opportunity to bond with teammates and support them both on and off the field.
Whether you are a star player or just a supportive fan, team sports teach many valuable lessons that can’t be learned in the classroom. From learning how to work well with a team to overcoming the challenge of competing against more talented opponents, these skills will last a lifetime.
However, it is important to note that team athletics are not a feasible option for everyone. Some barriers that prevent students from participating in team athletics include feeling they are not physically fit enough, lack of time, poor accessibility and cost. Regardless of these obstacles, there are ways for students to be involved in a team sport such as coaching or managing.
For example, one way to engage students in a team sport is by having them play a blindfolded partner obstacle course where they will work together to complete the challenge without seeing each other’s faces. Another fun activity is to have a Thumbs Up and Thumbs Down game where the team members share something that was a thumbs up and something that was a thumbs down during their day or week.
