Teachers

Bumblebee Teachers

Each class has 3 teachers – an unusually low 7:1 student-teacher ratio. Our teachers have a range of backgrounds, interests and experiences which they bring to the classroom. Bumblebee also enjoys hosting several student teachers throughout the year. We also offer a specialized music teacher. In addition, while not mandatory, we warmly welcome and encourage parents to participate.

Brenda You (Head Teacher) 3/4’s, 4’s & 3’s Class

Born in Taiwan and raised in the lovely neighbourhood of Kerrisdale, Brenda graduated from Emily Carr University with a degree in Communication Design prior to obtaining her ECE training and degree from American Montessori Society. Brenda also completed her special needs and infant toddler diplomas. Her inspiration and love for art and the outdoors has enriched the children immensely with the use of different natural materials for art activities and collaborative projects. As a certified children’s yoga teacher, she also leads many fun and exciting movements with the students in the class! She brings with her experience and knowledge from various play-based, Reggio Emilia, and Montessori childcare centres as well as a genuine passion and commitment towards early childhood education. Brenda is thrilled and feels privileged to be part of the Bumblebee Team!

Paula Tisdale 3/4’s, 4’s & 3’s Class

Paula grew up in the Okanagan Valley where she first discovered her love of nature and followed her bliss as an Early Childhood Educator. Paula has been involved in the ECE childcare community for the past 17 years including membership with the Vancouver Reggio Consortium Society, ECEBC and NAREA. She has also participated in the Reggio Emilia study group in Italy as well as The Wonder of Learning in Vancouver. Both have served as incredible inspiration. She has since had the honour of becoming a mom which has merged her soul refining experience of parenting with her love of teaching. Paula’s deep respect for children is enhanced through active listening, mindful exploration and playing to learn. She believes in providing fun, inclusive and collaborative environments rich with opportunities for children to reach their learning potential. Paula feels enthusiastic to be joining the Bumblebee teaching team and anticipates creating meaningful connections with the children and their families.

Renee Collins 3/4’s & 3’s Class

Renee was born and raised right here in Vancouver! She attended Vancouver Career College where she obtained her certificate in Early Childhood Education and had the privilege of completing a practicum at Bumblebee! This will be her 13th year as a passionate and caring Early Childhood Educator and with it she brings a variety of experience from both Reggio and play-based daycare and preschool programs, as well as having experience with ages ranging from 18 months to school age. Renee’s love for art, music, and creative expression can be seen in many of her art projects, during group time and through fun music and movement activities. Her love for nature and the great outdoors can be seen through her use of natural materials and resources within the classroom. Renee is excited to be joining the Bumblebee team!
